Clip A Raster

  • Use the CLIP command to subset a raster by entering the max/min X & Y coordinages of the area you are interested in.  This results in a new rectangular image.

  1. ArcToolbox > Data Management Tools > Raster > Clip
  2. Input Raster:  Load the image you want to clip
    • if you use the drop-down arrow to specify a layer shown in ArcMap, only the 3 layers displayed will be processed
    • if your image has more than 3 layers (ie Landsat image), do not use the drop-down arrow, instead, use the Open Fiel button and select the dataset manually
  3. Rectangle:  Enter the minimum X and Y values that define the extent
    • you can find these by moving the mouse over the image and recording the values shown in the lower-right of the screen
  4. Output Raster:  Enter the name of the new, clipped image you will generate
  5. Hit OK to process
